oh my!! the hairdresser obviously got scissor happy, or !!!!!!ed it and could only chop more off to rectify it! Was she a trainee or a junior??
unfortunately you cant stick hair back on once its cut! does she have the original picture she took? i would suggest going make and show the picture and be extremelly loud at say they chopped all her hair off!!! They will want her to shut up as quickly as possible as there will be other customers in the shop, sounds harsh but you might find they will be more likely to refund her if she is really loud! Ask for a refund as she will now have to go somewhere else to sort it. Also is it a big company or a local salon? if its a big company i suggest a complaint to the head office!
As to your sisters hair, does she hate the style or the length? if its the style i suggest she looks in a few magazines to find something she prefers while it grows, if its the length maybe she could buy a few clip in extensions, which are quite cheap and easy to maintain. Go to a different hairdressers and get them cut into a style slightly so they look nicer.
it awful when people do this it makes me so angry! a picture is the best thing to take to help give the stylist a realistic idea rather than words!

Any hairdresser who demanded a deposit from me and tried on the hard sell certainly wouldn't get my custom and I would make sure I let friends and family know that they are to be avoided.

FWIW - I'm a complementary therapist and rent rooms at a couple of salons, they have lovely staff and are not pushy but often do ask for a deposit from new clients who are making expensive bookings - this is only because they've both been conned by people coming in for lengthy, expensive colours and then 'oh dear the card doesn't work and I'll have to pop to the cash point' and they've never come back!
Not only is it lost income and cost of materials - it's the time they could have booked in folk who are genuine, and of course the owners still have to pay the staff.

sues07, thank you for your thoughts - she's really not happy with the length mainly..I think the manager told her at the time that she thought it suited her and was lovely, becuse there were lots of others in the waiting area at the time, and it's only a small local salon so i guess they want to be shown to be keeping everyone happy. The girl who did the haircut wasn't a trainee or a junior, just one of the regular stylists there apparently. My mum has been having her hair cut there for yrs, and hasn't had a problem with it, and I think thats why sis went there. Plus it being local, and she lives in a rural area so not much choice in the area.
  • Piratefairy - your sister should definitely go back and say that she's really unhappy and doesn't feel she got the service she asked for and ask for a refund or some other form of compensation (vouchers for a free cut next time with the most senior person there - then give it to your mum!).

Totally unacceptable to get it so wrong and then not to try and convince her that it's fine. Makes me so mad when that happens.

And in lieu of a head office there's always the local paper to complain to!

Hi i would complain at them being pushy if you felt arkward. I also agree they sound like they need the business which is not a good sign, most hairdressers (good ones!) are pretty booked up and would have just left it.

I have used many and not taken to any of them, i now use a mum from school who is lovely, she works form home and has her own salon in the house and i feel like im off to a friends for a cuppa and a relaxing few hours as opposed to worrying what she will do/say! fab haircut and colour always too so am sticking with her!

Hope you find the right person soon x
