Hairdresser ettiquette?

personally from a hairdresser point of view, they sound on the edge of no customers! if they are well known and trusted hairdressers they wouldnt need to keep your appointment after the week. i have never in all my years heard of a deposit being taken for a simple cut and colour, wedding hair i could see there point!
The fact they said you had dry damaged hair was for you to have a conditioning treatment before they could colour it, they would have sprung that on you when you went there!
I cant describe how unprofessional it is to ring your work!!! i suggest you ring and say you dont apprieciate there manner and you want your number and name deleted from there books and you would never recommend them to anyone!0 -

Thanks for this, it's interesting to get a hairdresser's point of view! I did wonder what they were getting at- the last time I had a dye job was black to burgundy (you can see I have been trying and failing to get that colour for some time
) and I never had a conditioning treatment beforehand. Then again it was a lot shorter then, so maybe they didn't see the point.
Oh I know, I do wish I'd been there to answer the phone myself though- I felt a bit mean that my work colleague had to be my secretary, and I'd have told them not to ring again. That said, am hoping they have got the message and will not try again- the appointment has passed now after all!0 -
Fuzzy_Duck I think you were right to ignore them and their appt!! Hopefully you'll find somewhere more to your liking next time you fancy a change..
WHilst pondering the subject of hairdresser etiquette...My sis went for her hair cutting yday at her local salon. She hasn't had it cut professionally for a while as she's been at uni, and it had grown quite long, so she decided she wanted some taking off the length. She took a picture - does anyone else still do that? (I'm no use as I never get my hair cut professionally)..
Anyway, she'd suggested 3 inches or so as a maximum off the lenght, and basically they have taken a lot more off! Her hair fell to about mid-back length, and is only just past her ears now.
She was absolutely mortified, as she had questioned the lenght being cut off whilst it was wet, and the girl told her it would be fine when it was dry. She told the hari stylist she was really not happy with it, and was suggested that she could get extensions (!!!). Apparently the manager then came to ask if there was a problem, and she explained that she wasn't happy and thatr she hadn't got what she asked for.
Just wondered what the correct thing to do would be in this situation. She still paid for it - would any of you have insisted on a discount or something? Is there anything she could have done?!0 -
that sounds like very bad customer service, they were pushing you into booking an appointment, you could phone the manager and complain0

Maybe you could enter this....?!

That's terrible piratefairy, your poor sis
She definitely needs to go back and ask for a full refund. There's not a lot else she can do about it though- if they offered hair extensions, maybe she could insist she has them free since they screwed up? It's worth a try, worth they can say is no.
It is a difficult one- if it were me I'd never want that particular hairdresser touching my hair again, so I advise she says no if they offer fixing it! I always show with my fingers how much I want off in case the hairdresser's idea of an inch is difference from mine, but at the end of the day there's not much you can do if you have a chop-happy hairdresser. Maybe Sues07 will have some advice for you later as she's a hairdresser herself?
Arg JenniferF, nooooo! :rotfl:It was Lauren who was going to do my hair! Even if it were free I wouldn't go back... good luck to whoever wins though, hopefully they will get what they ask for, not what Bad Apple Hair think they should have!0 -
Sounds like they are a bad apple. Thank goodness you stayed strong and didn't pay their deposit. I wonder how many people have been conned into handing over their money just to get away from the hard sell.
Any hairdresser who demanded a deposit from me and tried on the hard sell certainly wouldn't get my custom and I would make sure I let friends and family know that they are to be avoided.
A good hairdresser who is doing well doesn't need to hard sell to customers or demand deposits upfront. I can't believe they don't realize by behaving this way all they are doing is driving away would be customers and giving themselves a bad name in the process.Nothing to report:p0 -

I think so too, but she paid for the haircut.
Apparently the girl who was cutting her hair suggested extensions, and the manager just said she thought it looked great so couldn't see what the problem was - not v good service in my opinion, if someone complained to me I'd want to know what I could do to put it right!0 -
Cheers rolleypolleypud, bizarrely I did look at reviews of them (only a few mind) and they were all positive. Perhaps they just didn't like the look of me, or I got cornered by the worse members of staff! Either way I'll be interested in knowing if anyone else has had a similar experience.
The deposit was going to be about £60 as well, so I bet I would have ended up paying double that had I gone ahead with it! :eek:0 -

I think it's perfectly acceptable to go back (as long as she doesn't hang about too long!) as a lot of the time people are so shocked and too shy to complain they pay up anyway. She really needs to complain properly- it's awful that the manager didn't accept that the hairdresser had done wrong at the time!0
