    I currently take:

    - Purse
    - Lipstick
    - Powder
    - Lipbalm
    - Umbrella
    - Keys
    - Hairbrush
    - Compact umbrella
    - Fold up carrier bag
    - Mobile
    - Pack of tissues
    - Sanitary towel
    - Pen
    - Eyespray
    - Bottle of sun lotion
    - Camera
    - Penknife (with mini scissors)
    - Mini sewing kit

I usually end up with all of my boyfriend's stuff as well when he doesn't have enough pockets! Luckily all the above is quite small and light so it doesn't take up too much space.

Thanks everyone for giving me a little glimpse of what you keep inside your bags. :)

I bought some hand sanitizer, tissues and plasters today "just in case". Also bought a new body spray to keep in my bag for those days where I just need to freshen up.

I have a little bag that I got with a dove gift set so I've put my makeup and other small essentials in there, which is coming in very handy. :)

Sun lotion sounds like a good idea. I'm quite pale so get burnt easily usually.

I always have my compact camera on me. I have an SLR too but it gets quite heavy sometimes.:o

I meant to get a small notebook when we were in town but I completely forgot. I might see if I already have one around just to be MSE. :p

Is there anything else that I should have in my bag for those "just in case" situations?

I can't really understand why women need all this stuff. Men walk around with just their wallet and a phone and it works for them. Personally my essentials are my purse, mobile (sort of pointless because it's rarely charged), tissues and spare sanitary pads. Oh and my keys of course.

I've skimmed this, so maybe someone else also keeps a tape measure in their bag?

I have an Oyster card, which I rarely use so i can't always find it when I need it. And my Disabled Rail card, which is less often not in the right bag. Multi-journey bus ticket lives in my small purse (yes I have a small and a large purse!)

    LOL! Me too.

Purse, phone, keys, lipgloss, tissues, couple of tampons and my reading glasses. On the understanding that in an "emergency" I can beg, borrow, buy, improvise or do without!

Men do tend to carry stuff in their pockets though, which I think women are less inclined to do!

Good grief - I'd need a crane to carry all that round with me!

Mine contains a purse, a pen, lipstick or two or three, mobile phone, hairbrush, 2 diaries and some tissues ( oh and a bag of grain and some hazelnuts!)

Still think i'm winning on carrying the least stuff around.

That said, you should see what's chucked in the car as a just in case!!

I've a big bag for work with no internal dividers and too much stuff and recently decided to get organised so - a pencil case which holds a pen, Boots and Tesco vouchers and loyalty cards; a small makeup bag which hods MP4 player and headphones (so they don't get scratched this time!); a frankly horrible purse (unwanted Xmas gift) which my gran would have loved - just big enough to hold my Ipod shuffle (alternated with the MP4 bag depending on where I'm going.) Plus several other bags of varying sizes and shapes

The main thing is that each one is distinctive by touch - so I can get what I need without a lot of rummaging ...
