Firstly I would like to say thanks to people whom read and contribute to this board, it really is an excellent place for advice. It is nice to know assist is on hand when required.
So, after spending most of the week clearing out the house I will see what I can make tommorow, I have promised the wife that what doesnt sell will be dropped off at the council tip on the way home. After all, my car boot items are all things we dont want and not suitable for ebay.
I best get to bed ready for an early start.....

lol Are you kidding?! Those things are addictive! Especially when you get home with a pocket full of crisp tenners :j
Well done, was it worth getting up at stupid o'clock for? :T"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Don't you have any charity shops nearby? I know it would mean keeping the stuff an extra day till they're open (except clothes and things which can be put in the big "recycling" containers outside supermarkets), but surely if you're close enough to civilisation to do a car boot sale, there must be somewhere other than the tip to get rid of leftovers? If you made £124 then your stuf obviously isn't all rubbish!nutmegman wrote:Firstly I would like to say thanks to people whom read and contribute to this board, it really is an excellent place for advice. Car booting is a mugs game, nobody really wants to buy anything. They wont even give you 50p for something that would cost well over a tenner in a shop and was in good cond.
I couldnt sell a brand new wall mirror abour 40" x 60", eventually justice was served on it when the wind blew it over and smashed it.
Yes I did goto to the tip on the way home, I just dumped stuff people were really not interested in, mainly electrical stuff and tat not even a charity shop would want.
I do have loads of shoes, clothes to take to the charity shop so i will do my bit and the electricals were put in the reclying bin at the tip.
Done even bother to try and sell any videos, as for my old designer clobber I didnt even get a sniff.
As for pricing, I think it would be best to price everything up, that way when people are sniffing they know the deal. I didnt price up anything and when people asked how much there response was not good, then i said make me an offer then, they dont even want to offer you owt.
So, I got up at 6AM return home around 14:00, made 124 -£7 pitch, -£3 on food and -£5 petrol leaves me with £109, so thats 8 hours out of the house and that doesnt even allow for the many hours spent at home sifting through stuff to take to the car boot and loading the car up last night, so i wouldnt be to far adrift if i have put at least 20 hours in that works out at £5.45 per hour, I may as well clean the local pub.
At least Gordon wont be having his slice, especially when i drink all the £109 pounds on Cyprus Kio in two weeks time
To close £109 is not bad for stuff not suitable for ebay, i dont think i would bother again:beer:0 -
That's a great amount to make at a car-boot sale. I made £63.00 yesterday, people won't pay more than £1.00 for anything round here. Books 20p, clothes 50p - £1.00. I was only there for a couple of hours as it started raining. The reason I made this in a short time is because I sold a brand-new microwave for £20.00.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

We did our second car boot in three days (Friday and today). Made just under £50.00 today and £90.00 on Friday for a whole load of rubbish (well not to other people) but I do agree that no-one wants to pay. You will get some people who are really pleased with their 'bargain' and then you get Mrs 'I'm a dealer' who offers my friend on the next stall 10p for an item that she only wanted 20p for (it was underpriced anyway) - my friend won and stuck out for the 20p!
We did make some quite big sales (new leather boots for £5.00, new toddler coat £3.00, little tikes road and rail set £5.00) but we also made small ones 10p etc. I have put all the money we have made at car boots into a bank account (do about 3 or 4 a year and have been saving for three years) and we have well over £1000 :T to spend on something really nice - makes the early mornings worthwhile! ish!!!!!0
