Car insurance renewal with a pending claim

My car insurance is due for renewal soon and I have a claim that hasn't been settled yet.

On most price comparison websites there is the option of a pending claim. But what heppens when the claim is settled later? I have visions of getting a good price now but then a demand for a massive extra payment if the claim goes down as my fault.

So how does it work with a pending claim? Will I be expected to pay more if it is found to be my fault? Will I get a refund if it is settled as the other party's fault?

I haven't yet had a renewal price from my current insurer but I am desperate to move away as they have been useless handling this claim.

Thanks for the help.

I had an accident in April 2009 and as far as i'm aware, the insurance companies are still arguing over liability. I've added it as an 'at fault' claim when i was getting my current policy. Due to the nature of the accident, i know the absolute best outcome would be 50/50 and doubt it'll make much difference from an at fault claim. Explained all this over the phone to my current company (Admiral) when i paid up for the year and they were happy with it.

You pay more now. If you are proved faultless you should get a refund, but get this in writing.
