Have had this 6 months or so, noticed it won't print all the text on what seem to be random lines.
By "won't print text" I mean it prints the text but leaves off the bottom 1/4 or so of every word on a particular line. Just skims off the bottoms - 'tails' missing from g's and skimming off the very bottom of letters, that type of thing if you know what I mean!
It's doing my head in, I'm trying to write CV's and job apps - can't have that messing them up. It stops if I select a slightly paler black and then choose the colour cartridge, but then it still doesn't look great because the black isn't quite black enough and the print isn't as sharp.
I bought better quality paper but still using refill cartridges, do you think this might be the problem? I've used refills before but this hasn't happened as far as I can recall and my last cartridge was a proper HP - that did it as well.
Any suggestions before I take a sledgehammer to it.............. Tried cleaning relentlessly already but no improvement.

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

It sounds like a partially blocked print head. Do the HP print utilities offer the option to print a nozzle check page? If so, the problem should be readily visible.
If the print head is fixed, it can be very fiddly and time-consuming to resolve. If the HP carts have the print head built into them then a new cart ~should~ fix it.0
