Moving House - going from coin meter to monthly billing help required

1st off I need to know who to look at for my new electricity supply The property I am moving to has NO gas all heating/cooking is electric.

My current property does have gas heating (included in rent so dont know how much that costs) however my cooker is electric.

Currently I put around £5-£7 per week into my coin meter and I "think" I get around 12units/£1 from the meter, this would put my usage at around 60-84 units per week, sounds a lot but have tumble drier and dishwasher too.

so with that information what suggestions can you helpful people make also need to know what to do to sign up once I find my supplier

All electric properties can be very expensive to run you should keep a close eye on your meter from week 1 and pay close attention to the setup of your central & water heating system.

Make sure you take a meter reading the day you move in, notify and give that to your new supplier and have them setup a new account for you.

Get yourself on a competative tariff as soon as you're able to gauge your useage.

if you want to be on the safe side (moderate worst case) set aside £200 per month then be glad you have some left over.

....my boss rented an all electric place and managed to burn through £1600 in 6 months due to a bank of electric wall heaters being left on excessively....

No need to wait. Do so straight away.
  • not a big fan of heating anyway so hope to keep costs down that way (was brought up with the "If you're cold, put another jumper on!" mentality ) besides which I get far too hot in the summer.

But yes competetive tariff = good. Who are the best atm?

    Hi kragen_ironfist

I'd suggest looking at some price comparison websites, such as https://www.uswitch.com. It's also worth checking who your existing supplier is at your new property - remember to contact them for a quote too.
To work out roughly how much you use a year for your energy, contact your current supplier as this may be able to help you when getting your quotes.

Just remember, when going from a prepayment meter to credit meter, the tariffs may be more competitive, but it's not as easy to keep track of how much you are spending because it is not "pay as you go". To really keep on top, make sure you give your new supplier regular meter readings so you're not reliant on estimated bills.

    Hope this helps
