Sorry if this has been posted before, but the price rise has now happened.
Letter received today, prices effective 1st Sep
Gas is to be 2.55p per kWhr inc VAT
Electricity per kWhr in regions,
Eastern
9.32p
East Midlands
9.36p
London
9.8
Manweb
10.48
Midlands
9.64
Norweb
9.68
Seeboard
9.53
Southern
10.77
South Wales
11.35
South Western---10.55
Yorkshire
9.79
Scottish Hydro---10.75
Scottish Power---10.58
represents a 23% increase for elec over 12 months
Remember cost is for ALL units used, unlike BG's hidden standing charge of around £24 by charging around double for the first 100ish units.
HTHs, still cheaper for me than BG prior to their price rise.

Yes Dc., got mine yesterday too.Even the price rise letter is easy to read, after Powergen's convoluted tariff structure.
Am in the cheapest area.
Would you suppose the different regional rates are to do with the distance from the gas terminal.0 -
I think the difference is more historical, ie the rates the old electricity boards charged with % increases applied nationally. Thereby not putting up one region unfairly.
Of course someone may know a better reason.

This from the EBICO FAQs:
Why does the EQUIPOWER tariff vary regionally whereas EQUIGAS does not?
Because one company, Transco, owns all the gas pipes in Great Britain, even though the cost of looking after these pipes varies between different parts of Britain, Transco are able, to a significant degree, to ‘smear’ these differences across the whole of their network. As a result, the difference in price that a gas supply company is charged for transporting gas from the North Sea to a customer in, say, Wiltshire is not that much more than would be charged for transporting it to a customer in Scotland. Gas supply companies generally (although not always) average out these relatively modest price differences so that customers don’t see them.
However, whilst The National Grid Company owns the high voltage supergrid that connects all the large power stations in England and Wales (SP and S&SE in Scotland) it does not own the lower voltage wires that bring the power from the supergrid to your door. Several different companies own these regional ‘distribution’ companies. Each of these regional companies faces different costs. In Scotland, Wales and the Southwest, for example, the mainly rural environment means connecting many relatively remote villages with long lengths of inefficient low voltage overhead wires. The distributed and remote nature of much of these companies ‘assets’ (wires, poles, transformers, etc) in rural areas mean that maintenance costs are higher. Because the companies that own these regional distribution companies are independent, there can be no ‘smoothing’ of costs. As a result, a supply company bringing power to a customer’s door in Devon or Wales will be charged significantly more than for bringing power to a house in Birmingham (where the ‘assets’ are much closer together and, thus, cheaper to maintain).
