FTB - When do you send in a surveyor?

Hi All
I am a FTB, and it is a bit of a mine field. My current sutuation is as follows -
1) I have appointed a solicitor (starting searches)
2) Applied for my mortgage (had AIP, waiting to sign first load of forms from advisor)
3) Offer has been accepted
The estate agent has told me the buyer wants me to do the survey in the next few weeks, as they are going on holiday and want it sorted by then.
Should I be appointing a surveyor to go in and do a medium (homebuyer's survey) now, or should-
- I wait for the mortgage to come through and then get a survey done?
- Or, should I wait until the mortgage people send in their surveyor and just him to do the survey I want at the same time?
Thanks in advance.

You should have your mortgage app in now and there will be an option for you to upgrade your valuation to a homebuyers or even a full building survey. depending on the price you might want to go with this option or commission your own separate homebuyers/building survey.
However, what your vendors are talking about is your valuation - that is what they will be keen to see happening, I'm sure they'll be happy if you aren't having a homebuyer's survey done at all!
So you need to be chasing your mortgage application through so that the valuation happens.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thank you, I am awaiting the mortgage advisor to send paper work that I need to sign and send back to them - so I guess I will have to wait for that and see what they say.
The mortgage is with Abbey and comes with a Home valuation report, I'm not sure if they have surveyors themselves but I'll check the RICS site.0
