Regarding the Council Tax:
Whilst your still in receipt of CB for your son he is disregarded for Council Tax purposes, if he becomes a Full Time student then he will also be disregarded from the date he begins his course.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Just thought I'd update:
I spoke to a nice young man this morning who was happy to accept a printout of the email welcome letter from the uni as evidence he's going there. They are taking my word for it right now that he's still getting CB until the letter I requested arrives in 10 days or so and have restarted my claim so I shouldn't have to pay the full amount this month after all!
It really was a scaremongering letter as it definitely said my claim had been stopped, but I was assured it was just suspended and would be backdated once they processed the info. Phew, and thanks for your help.
