HB overpayment write off if pregnant??

No thanks dmg24. I was simply seeing if anyone knew if it could be done.
As it is highly unlikely then I shall have to argue the point with them that the total amount due is approx £250 when they consider both under and overpayments.
When they accept this is the case, I shall offer them £1 a week in thanks for their undue harrasment and threats. In about 5 years time the matter shall be concluded as the debt will be paid off in full.
Hopefully by then our visa's to Australia will be in place and then we can get out of here!0 -

Sorry, you are living in cloud cuckoo if you think it will work that way.
As has been mentioned several times, you cannot offset amounts on different accounts.
If you offer £1 a week, they will ask for proof that this is all you can afford. If they are not satisfied they will take the matter to court. You will then end up with additional costs plus a CCJ.
The chances of getting a working visa for Oz with a CCJ against you are low. Therefore your pedantry will actually ruin your longer term aim, and you will end up paying more than if you just pay now (or as soon as is reasonably possible).Gone ... or have I?0 -

So you are saying that there has been underpayment, overpayment AND fraud?0 -
Where is the logic in me paying £1000 only to then have to wait to be refunded £750 from the council??
After speaking to them they have said that I have to write to them advising of all payment amounts recieved, and amounts that should have been paid. They have said that as I was over 25 then my LHA entitlement should have been raised and was not- hence the overpayment and underpayments. They will then look into this and ammend the total amount due.
I can then adapt my monthly figures to come to a reasonable figure that they can take as a monthly payment. I doubt that they will go to court once they have a offer of payment in writing, as a judge would laugh it out of court seeing that I would be paying all that I could afford.
This then shouldnt impact on our visa application.0 -

Absolute rubbish, firstly they would not make such a decision over the phone (although I am sure that they will invite you to write in, and then decline your request), and secondly they will never offset one persons account off another.
In your little story you have missed the fact that the LA has to work to govt Regs, and they will not ignore these rules just for you.
What little credibility you had has just been blown out the window - you have shown yourself up to be a liar (or maybe a fantasist?)! :rotfl:Gone ... or have I?0 -

Dont see why you are getting personal and offensive with this??
I am simply stating what they have told me verbally over the phone.0 -

This is quite hysterical.
I've just been through the Aus visa process and it dont come cheap running into several thousand nor do the flights to get out there. You can afford this yet you cant afford to pay your debts :rotfl::rotfl:
BTW Australia and the UK has a reciprocal agreement for collection of Government debts.0 -

BWAHAHAHAHA....can I have some of what you're smoking? You can offer them £1 a week but they don't have to accept.
BTW, unpaid debts may have an impact on you getting a visa to Oz...0 -
you still havent confirmed if these are 2 separate accounts or whether you were claiming as a couple
it is possible that they will confirm over the phone whether there is a mistake in the calulcation but you will receive confirmation of this via phone and asked to write in (as you have done)
if the overpayment for your partner (obtained via HB fraud) is at the stage of solicitors, it shows they have made various attempts to contact her beforehand to take back the money, why didnt she contact them to discuss this months ago?0 -
Ah, well, the UKs loss is Australia's gain...0
