I would take it back as you've paid good money for it and should do the job it is advertised to do.

I have a Yankee candle "Housewarmer" in a sort of kilner jar. I have had it for ages and it smells very strong. You need to let it burn for at least 3 hours so that it burns down evenly. When I have lit it in an evening, the smell is still there the next morning when you go into the room.

Alternatively, I had some wax filled jars from Morrisons. They were about £1.50 I think. The mocha one had a good smell but the best one was a purple colour and I think it was winter berries or something like that. At that price, worth a try.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I buy the ones from the Pier, they're not the cheapest, but cheaper than Yankees and they last quite a while. Fragrances can be a bit hit or miss, but you're bound to find some you like.
A trick I learnt about candles: to get an even burn, measure the diameter. For each inch, burn for an hour. i.e. a 3 inch candle should be burnt for 3 hours at a time.

If you can get hold of partylite candles then get them, they are fantastic. They smell lovely and also burn right down with no waste.

I now use Ancient Wisdom Simmering Granules. The smell is unbeleivable and as soon as someone walks into your house they will smell this stuff. I love the one called Baby Powder, but they do many different ones.
They also do candles but I have not used these, after trying the granules i much prefer them.

    Here is a link http://www.ancientwisdom.co.uk/wsl/

edit to add that link is for wholesale but if you browse through you will see some of the things they stock.
