Floor tiles Edwardian House need cleaning.

Options
I have a house and the floor tiles have "matted" and could do with cleaning/polishing. I would like to keep the originals and was wondering if anyone has any advice on renovating them or just cleaning off the grim.

Thanks

What sort of tiles though? Encaustic tiles, quarry tiles?
Have a look at the HG range of cleaners, as they will have something suitable for your tiles.

Engine parts cleaner is effective removing oil and dirt from parts and tools, would work on floor tiles too and much more economical. Dilute from 50:1 to 10:1 for use. 5ltr £11.73p

Sugar soap makes a fair go at cleaning grime.

    Try Lithofin products:- http://www.extensive.co.uk/

I used to find the HG products a little to thick (as in treacle like as opposed to water like).

Give them a good chemical clean, then cover them with a sealer which will help keep them clean.

I always preferred impregnating sealers for natural stone, but the original style Victorian style tiles seem to be easier to maintain with a topical sealer (i'e like a varnish on wood - it sits on top and creates a barrier).

However have a chat with Extensive and they'll tell you exactly what you have to do as apart from selling the stuff they are actually a contract restorer also.

Look like Victorian/Edwardian encaustic tiles to me, so you need a cleaner specifically suited to them.
