Curses! Rumbled again. I woulda got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!Richard1075 wrote: »Why is it always a "friend" that is attempting the fraud? Perhaps I am being cynical but don't you think that it actually the OP who is seeing how far they can go?
Sorry and I shall probably get a lot of stick but if I had a "friend" who was cheating the system I would report them without any hesitation.
There is only a certain amount available and even less when the Budget cut hit home so why should genuine claimants be denied so others can fiddle the money?
Seriously though, the National savings people assert that they will not disclose any details of your account without your express permission. Can the council ride roughshod over this, is it bullsh++, or is the permission implied by signing the forms? ls it mentioned in the smallprint? I don't know, cos I'm not claiming - yet.
It's all hypothetical; the apostrophes around friend should have been a clue.;)0 -
The HB & DWP can access your bank account, credit card accounts, electric, gas, phone, sky, credit search, get wage slips, etc etc all without your permission or knowledge.
Most people with capital, savings, Work Pensions etc get caught by the Inland Revenue who then get the local HB & DWP to investigate.0 -

They can credit search you (experian), that gives then full details to accounts in your name.
From that they can ask you to provide a statement trail.
They can make this a condition of awarding your benefit. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -
people seem to be getting carried away here,do any of you seriously believe that the DWP keep a check on the bank accounts of millions of claimants??What they do do is ask you to supply the info on any accounts you have when making a claim,if they at some point become suspcious about what you have told them, then they will investigate, its at that point information on you can be made avaliable and if you have lied you may be prosecuted for fraud and pick up a criminal record0

You will be found out, it is fraud, as well as unethical. If you are short of cash you should just use your savings and apply once you're below the capital limit. You must have seen some of the publicity around fraud cases? Take note of people on this forum who found that DWP/ JCP or their LA already knew about accounts. You might also note that HMRC get banks to give them details where people are thoguht to be breaking the law - remember all those offshore accounts?0

They might not "actively" keep track of people's accounts, but they can match against inland revenue records for non-declared accounts. They can run these matches against anyone, they don't need to target them or have any suspicion. Once the issue of non-declared accounts is identified, the suspicion arises and the investigation commences.0 -
