Coin In the Slot Meter
Does anyone know how to calculate what prices the "coin in the slot" electricity meter in my flat is set to charge per unit as I wouldnt mind knowing as I suspect its set excessivly high as this is one of the smallest places I have lived in but seems to be costing me the most in electricity.
I cant have it removed because of a clause in my lease, however I dont want to make too big a deal about it as the council tax is charged on the whole building not the individual flats and as a result I pay about £3.50 a week council tax which is a lot less than the £134 a month I would be paying so a bit extra on electricity isnt going to kill me but I want to make sure I am not beeing ripped off.
Its an RDL Analogue Meter set to accept pound coins. cant see any obvious serial numbrs I have snapped it with the digital camera if anyone is familiar with this unit.

Blimey didnt know they still did money in the slot electric meters looks like an antique0 -
Yep, its fully insured against Fire, Theft, Luddites and Witchcraft. After checking around they were still selling them up until RDL went bust 12 months ago.0

As a complete stab in the dark, when you insert the £1 coin and turn the dial round for it to drop into the coin box, the dial should turn in relation to the number of KW/hs that the pound has purchased. (The "Units Per Coin" lettering is what I'm guessing by).43580

Thats for setting up the meter its some form of pin in the slot mechanism, the bad news is that the precise setting is covered by some metal panel. There might be a section of the casing that indicates that but I dont know what and my online searches for a manual have drawn a complete blank.0

The only other suggestion that I have is that this guy:
http://www.buy-electrical.co.uk/enter.html?lang=en-uk&target=d69.html
Is selling reconditioned untils like yours. If you drop him a mail, he may let you have a manual or explain how they're set up.

I managed to find a "setup" picture online, there is an etched line on the case that indicates the pricing "set".
After punching the calculator its set to 10.8 units per £1, assuming that a unit is a KwH then I am paying 0.09259p per unit and after checking the energy suppliers website is currently quoting more than that I am keeping my mouth firmly shut round my landlord.0 -

Sorry I know this isn;t how you meant it, but it made my laught all the same :rotfl:
That's not too bad a rate actually for a coin meter. Also didnt know you still got them. Also, nice deal on the council tax, wish I could get that sort of discount!

Water rates are included too at £1.34 a week, god knows how my landlord manages it, i am presuming its some "legacy" clause that means that the council tax is worked out on the building rather than each flat. Needless to say I dont grumble as it would be at least £134 extra each month
Very handy given my current "financially disadvantaged" status0
