in Credit cards
Hi i have recentlt had all the neg info drop off my credit file after 6 years.I have copies from equifax and experian and there are no defaults or anything bad showing.
I recently applied to nationwide and mbna and both knocked me back .I then applied to amex who have approved me with a nice size limit, why ?
The only things on my file are my 12 k van loan and my current cap 1 card that is also running ok.The only thing is that i am not on the electoral role at my new house (of 3 months)although i was at my last address for 8 years.
thanks T.

There's no quicker way to trash your credit score than to move house and neglect to register!
Your best bet is to apply for a new credit card before you move.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

I think I'd have been tempted to appeal the Nationwide decision, rather than racking up several searches in quick succession and risking (although it appears it's not turned out that way with the Amex acceptance) damaging your credit file.trevor_john wrote:I recently applied to nationwide and mbna and both knocked me back .
Lenders like stability, so...
Did you put your previous address/length of time there on the application forms?
Also, were you on the electoral roll at your previous address?0 -

It doesn't apply to Nationwide (since they run their own card I think), but were some of your previous 'troubles' with an MBNA run credit card - they do run a few branded cards?
Maybe their records go back longer than 6 years?
Other than that, it must just simply be down to the lenders' individual scoring criteria.0 -
Nope the only cc ever had (badly) was barclaycard .I have cap 1 for 6 years no probs but got knocked back by nationwide and mbna and then amex no probs.
Ah well some ya win lol !!Onwards and Upwards

Maybe you didn't fit the profile of customer that MBNA or Natiowide are looking for. It doesn't mean that you are not creditworthy. Don't take it personally.0

FYI (& for other prospective applicants), Councils can add entries throughout the year.
Obviously, I don't know where you live, but if you type "electoral roll" and the name of your council into google, you'll be directed to the relevant pages on your local authority website. Most LA sites include an explanation of how the register is compiled and when your name will appear. The time involved varies during the calendar year.
None of this affects electors who are entitled to return to the neighbourhood where they're registered and vote, but it's crucially important when applying for a credit card to confirm your electoral status first. While lenders assess us differently (luckily), everyone's score improves no end, once they're on the electoral roll.
For more info, click on *Credit Rating* in the blue box above this board. Then click on Martin's *Check and Improve your Credit Score*article at the top of the page.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Hi there again
I realise this will be of little consolation to you at present, but I'm concerned that the 100 or so MSEs who have read this thread, will go away with the impression that you can only register once annually and if you miss that deadline, you're basically stuffed for another year.
Granted, there is a blind spot from mid-August till December where you live. This is because a borough-wide audit is undertaken in August and the register is updated in October. However, it will be possible to register each month from early December until mid-August, using the rolling register procedure.
You do not have to enroll in person. Most local authority websites are set up so you can register online or download a form. The same form can normally be used for change of address, if you were on the roll at the old address.
The period before your name is added to the register varies during the calendar year.
Hope future applications proceed more smoothly
Very best
