Intel MeeGo?

Options
Hi all,

I've just come across a link to a video of the new MeeGo in the vodaphone eForums and had a complete nerdgasm over it. Has anyone seen anything other than one video or know any specs for it?

I normally don't go for gadgety type things but this really made me drool!

Any pointers are totally appreciated!

MeeGo (assuming we're talking about the same thing) isn't actually owned by Intel. It's an Open Source Linux-based OS designed to run on certain Atom and ARM-based devices.

Take a look at the Wiki.

Thankyou for that :) I just came across a site explaining the same thing and the video I saw was an Intel Tablet PC running the MeeGo system :)

I also just saw the Archos 9 Tablet which seems to do pretty much the same thing as the Intel one and is already available so I think I may get one of those instead (when I finally save up enough to do so!)

    Thanks again for replying

I tried MeeGo (and its previous incarnation, Moblin) on my netbook and didn't find it all that great. For a start, it didn't have the driver for my wireless, and it was nigh on impossible to do. Secondly, the main page is a bit too simplistic (12 squares for the latest tweets - not good if you follow loads of people.

It may be a lot better on portable devices and smartphones, but the Netbook version is a bit of a disappointment - cause it could be really really good indeed

    Hey Esqui,

I was checking out the MeeGo site and saw the netbook version and was contemplating trying it out on my EeePC netbook but given that it doesn't have Wi-Fi, I'll give it a miss now because my entire home network runs on Wi-Fi eep!

If it doesn't have Wi-Fi in the netbook version, do you think that Intel would add that capability into a tablet as a separate driver or something?

I know I sound like a complete n00b and I admit, I am! I'm having to learn everything PC-Related on the fly since my husband and I split up last year and right now, stuff like the tablet looks all shiny and 'ooooh' to me :o

MeeGo is actually being developed by Nokia & Intel for use in Mobiles, Netbooks & Tablet PC's

it's at a very rough Ver 1.0 (mainly for developers at this stage.)

Expect the first MeeGo powered Nokia (N9) around Xmas...

As for Wi-Fi it "Should" have them, but for specific wireless cards (because it's still in testing and only aimed at developers to create things for specific hardware). Check what drivers you require and get them om a separate USB stick then install them after you install it ^_^

Theoretically yes...however, no-one had yet managed to compile a Broadcom driver for MeeGo. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

In any case, it's only one gripe I have. When it gets developed and more advanced, it will be a fantastic distro, but it's not living up to its potential at the moment
