Furniture cracking????

Hope someone can help or advise!
I have two 3 seater leather sofas we have had for 5 years, and on one of the seats the leather is cracking, the other 5 seats are fine, I clean it regularly with leather balsam.
The seat is not the most used either! so I can't understand why only one seat would crack and the other 5 not? :think:
The sofas were not 'cheapie ones', we paid £800 for each sofa.
Any ideas?
