Use the composite video input (yellow RCA socket), along with the corresponding audio inputs (red & white RCA sockets).

If the TV doesn't have composite input sockets, you can buy a convertor for the lead on your SEGA console to convert it to SCART.

Where on the mega drive do i connect the rca sockets, as there is only the aerial socket on the converter or a single socket, a DIN type socket on the console

The Mega Drive doesn't have RCA sockets.
The A/V lead that comes with the Mega Drive has the RCA plugs on the end of it, they go to your television.

No it did not, it was a standard RF connector, unless you're talking about one of the many re-releases over the past 10 years.

Even the Dreamcast came with an RF connector.

(Does raise the question though, does the OP's TV not have an RF socket? I thought it was still standard, even in HDTVs)

Agreed, my mega drive has the standard RF Socket.

I'd assume it would still come with the Aerial socket considering most of us aren't on the digital switchover yet, unless it's one of those ones with freeview built in but you'd still have to get the signal somehow.

I'd head to ebay and pick up a cheap converter, it's probably the easiest solution to your problems.

What's the problem- it just comes with a box that plugs into the aerial socket at the back of the TV, and then your aerial plugs into the box. If it doesn't have the box, you'll need to unplug the aerial every time you use it. You can buy an RF lead switch if you want to make it simpler.
You'll then need to 'tune in' to the MegaDrive on the analogue tuner on your TV. Make sure the MegaDrive is plugged in and switched on, and then do an autotune on the analoge tuner in the TV which should find it and give it a number. The graphics may look worse than you remember!
