Tenancy and phone line - who pays connection fees?

When we moved into our new rented flat we had the same problem. We ended up getting sky (including internet) and as part of this they creditted us with the initial connection fee (so we got £125 creditted to our account, which was about 6 months of sky/broadband)- we also got a marks and spencers vouchers (because we were 'recommended' by a friend) and I think you can also get more back through cashback sites. Sky don't really advertise it, but if you ring up and say you want tv + broadband, but can't afford a phone line they will offer to refund you.0

even cheaper if you sign up to BT for 18 months.
I think you should be able to transfer the rest of your contract if you do move after the 12 months AST, but do check with BT when you sign up.0 -

You will not be able to install a Sky dish without the freeholder's consent as the installation will be on and cause damage to the freeholder's property. Chances are the consent will cost money and the tenant has no right to ask directly. Some landlords disregard this and some leaseholders get very awkward and insist on the dish being removed.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
We didn't have a phone line at all when we moved into our current place as it had been derelict for a while then done up (we're renting). We paid £70 to get one put in with talktalk, though their broadband connection fee is £30 on top and have to tie in for 24 months. We had a nightmare with them supplying the internet but it got sorted out and they are pretty cheap. In my experience BT are as bad but more expensive. The line was actually installed by an openreach engineer.Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0

Can you get Virgin Media? Last time I checked it was free to get a phoneline, TV and BB connected

Thanks for the info...
I'm now looking at using BT for the phone @ £11.54 per month then using O2 for broadband but really didn't want to commit to 18 months having only taken out 12 months rent on the flat.
I've looked at Virgin Media but can't seem to find a price on their site for home phone + broadband. Their checker says I can't get fibre optic, only phone line broadband so it's looking like I will still need to get BT to connect the line even with VM.0
