I have an online service with the above company. They use to come out once a year to read the meter and in the meantime I gave them monthly readings on line. However I have noticed they are now calling out every three months. Has anyone else noticed this. Also I am always in credit and at the moment over £200 cr.
With thanks,

With thanks,
Just got through to SP and they advise the meter should be read once a year. I explained it was being read every three months. They explained it was nothing to do with them and advised I phoned my local supplier called EDF.
I phoned EDF and they said it is something SP would need to take up with the data controller and they should be dealing with this for you and not for the customer to have to sort out.
I have now spoken to SP again and they apologised I was given the incorrect information. They advised the local distributor can read the meter whenever they decide but must be read one every year.
However SP said the next time they call and it is within a 12 month period I can refuse them entry and if they need to read the meter for any reason they can contact SP who will make an mutually convenient appointment with myself.0 -
I am with scottish power and they only come once a year to read my meters.0

Does it matter? I think my meter is read about once per year too (also with scottish power), but I would'nt mind if they came every month.0

Hello. I know a wee bit about this from personal experience but not sure if it's helpful. I reside in the ScottishPower region. (South of Scotland) my supplier was British Gas. If British Gas decide that they want a reading, they send Data Serve (the meter reading side of ScottishPower)
When I switched to British Gas, they had Data Serve call three times in three months to read meters and then again once again to change my old SSEB meter to a digital British Gas one.
I complained to British Gas as I had to take time away from work each time as Data Serve only work until 8pm. My time
slot would be 5pm-8pm. So I had to leave early to be home for 5. Their response was that my consumption was lower and they would have to read the meter as they saw fit. The thing is, my consumption was as accurate as I punched into their website when I signed up though.
As you live in the EDF region (was that the old East Midland Electricity area?) then it's EDF that will carry out the meter reading service on behalf of your supplier.
I ended up moving after 4 months back to ScottishPower and have never had a problem since. Infact I don't think my meter has been read for at least two years. What I am trying to say is - based on my experience ScottishPower don't accept your consumption is what you are advising. Change supplier is my advice and the problem goes away. Hope that helps. I may be wrong though. Just that is my experience. Bye for now.0 -
Hi Rupert Bear
Your billing account will show what meter reading cycle you are on. If you manage your account online then your meter should be scheduled for an annual read and not quarterly. I can check this for you if you wish and make the necessary changes.
Being in credit at this time of the year is ideal as this will then go towards your higher winter consumption. If you have been with ScottishPower online for the last 12-months, have a look at the gas and electricity you consumed over the last winter period. Will your ongoing payments and the credit balance mean that you will break even after this winter or does it look like you will still have a credit balance?
What’s more, if your account has a credit balance at the time of your next annual review, we’ll actually give you money back. ScottishPower will pay you £1 for every full multiple of £33 above a minimum credit value of £100. That’s £1 if your credit balance is £133, £2 if it’s £166 and so on, right up to the maximum payout of £12 for a credit balance of £496.
If you want us to review your payments just give us a call and we can look at this for you. The best time to review your account is just after the winter period as this then gives you sufficient time to build up a credit balance for the next winter period (this will keep your Direct Debit payment even throughout the year). If you were to remove all the credit on your account before the winter period then you will loose the comfort of knowing that if we have a cold winter, you have sufficient funds on your account to cover any increase as a result of the heating being on longer.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards

Hi, be happy your meter is read every quarter this will ensure accurate billing. Why is it a problem only your supplier will be the loser they are paying for quarterly. Please don't refuse access the meter reader is just doing his job.
Most of the billing problems are caused by lack of readings.
SP rep better sort this out it is costing you money!!
God luck Hope this helps0 -
Does it matter? I think my meter is read about once per year too (also with scottish power), but I would'nt mind if they came every month.
To me it does matter. That was the whole point of having an online account for me. I supply them with meter readings each month and they in turn read the meter themselves every 12 months.
Also for the past two years they have requested I reduce my dd but I have requested it is left as it is incase my usage goes up.0 -

Thanks for that but as explained in an earlier posting. They receive a meter reading every month and for the last three years this has not been a problem. However that said the meter reader who called yesterday said they have been awarded the contract in the last six months to read the meters in my area. Since the change of meter co. they are now coming on a three month basis.0
