    I received an email from Persimmon today saying they cannot/will not give me an authorisation letter and will not give me an address of the company who can.

    I'm going to write a formal letter to Persimmon head office and am considering taking legal action to force them to change the doors and get an adequate number of keys for all those living in the flats and for everyone who lives there to be authorised to cut a pair.

    A letter will be finding its way into the mailboxes of each of my neighbours, too, I think.

    This has really irritated me.

    The 'person' responsible for giving you the keys is whoever owns the communal areas - presumably the freeholder. They have a duty, which you have picked out in the lease, to enable your access.

    If persimmon still are the freeholder (check the land registry if you need to), then write them a letter, with a deadline for a reply, noting that they may incur a liability for any costs you incur if the lease if violated by their refusal to permit access to an extra set of keys when needed.

    I suspect this is a case for a Leasehold Valuation Tribunal not court.

    I didn't even know what one of those was or that it existed XD. I shall have to look it up.

    They won't send your key off, they just need a note of the security number that is etched on the key. This is sufficient for making a copy.

    tell them you're now cohabiting and your partner needs a key, what are you supposed to do, wait outside until the other one gets home
