Cheers for the help.
I am near an Asda and Tesco so will be checking out the cheap ones after
Not too cheap though. I looked at the Tecsco value ones (£10) and found them quite scary looking lol. So will probably opt for the next step up from £35-60. 0 -

Then googled and it seems that D+A are becoming part of Boots? Confusing lol!

Well I went for my eye test this morning at boots and they gave me the prescription without asking

Very nice ladies who did my test. Was kindy jumpy when they blow air in your eyes though lol. And the pictures they take of your eyes were free, I thought I'd read they were £10.
I need glasses for computers, tv, driving etc. Had a look at Boots glasses, there were some I like at £99 with a second pair free and an extra £15 for anti glare coating.
Then went to Asda after and saw a pair I really liked and was suprised at how cheap their glasses are. £50 in total which already includes anti-glare lenses (and two pairs for £90).
I only like the curvy frames and not the rectangular ones (which they nearly all are as thats in trend she said).
I really like cat-eye frames like these but havn't seen any quite like them although the asda glasses are quite close and curvy.
Anyone have an experience of Asda glasses/opticians? I'm hoping cheaper doesn't mean worse?0 -
I really need to go get my eyes tested but I have never had them done before and I am 27. My headaches are getting bad lately and I don't know if its just the weather or not as I have had dizzy spells as well. I am scared and also slightly embarrassed that I have never been before although I have never really had a problem with seeing or reading unless I am tired. This post has made me decide to go and get them tested soon so thanks everyone.0

There's a whole thread about the Asda offer over in the Grabbits!
Both me & OH got new specs last December from Asda - mine are strong prescription (main pair) and tinted for sunglasses (second pair), Marley got two clear pairs (one more trendy!). We both wear specs full-time, as opposed to occasional wear.
We've both had minor issues - a nosepiece fell off on mine, a pin fell out on his - but popped back to Asda and they fixed the problems on the spot with no quibble. I'm told such problems can happen with any specs and that I've just been lucky before now!
Personally, I'd say we've had a great experience - spending only £100 in total as opposed to £500 - with no problems.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I got my specs from Asda too; I have rubbish eyes! Short sighted in one and long sighted in the other so ordinary readers are no good for me. I got the two for £90 offer and my prescription was from boots. Glasses are great and the chap said to come back if I have a problem; to date there have been no problems and my specs get thrown about a bit more than they should do! They (asda) also took a photocopy of my prescription so it's on file and gave me the original back.0

:T That's great that you've decided to go. The eye test is really nothing to worry about, it can be quite fun actually with all the different tasks to do. And I wouldn't worry that you've never had one before. I'm 25 and this was only my 2nd eye test and when I said I hadn't been for about 5 years they didn't tell me off or anything so don't worry. It's important to go though as not only will it tell you if you need glasses but they also check the health of your eyes. I too had been getting headaches (they felt like pressure headaches) and I also thought it could have been the hot weather. It could be that your eyes are straining and you get sore eye muscles/headaches. But the opticians will tell you what the problem is so get booking :T0 -
And thankyou Tigs and Ellie for putting my mind at ease about Asda! I already went yesterday as I decided it was important to get my glasses asap. I only bought one pair at £50 as these are my first glasses so I want to see how it goes and if I wear them enough to warrant buying two pairs next time etc.
Customer service was lacking at Asda though, I told them it was my first time buying glasses and they didn't even strike up a conversation or offer help advice
I chose the glasses with no help and basically just paid for them like a normal transaction with no interaction except they took my PD (61). I wasn't even asked to try the glasses on to make sure they suit me but never mind, I like them
They also kept my prescription so I hope I get it back.
And I'm not bothered about that as long as I can see properly when I get them, I'll update.
I think my prescription was
+1 -1 12
+0.75 -1.25 178
Which apparently mean I'm slightly long sighted with an astigmatism (which I didn't even know what that meant lol).0 -
I would suggest that you buy a second pair- just cheap ones.I now use glasses for reading and close work and can't manage without.
Once the screw fell out of the arm when I was abroad and I had to find an optician to repair them (it cost a little) and one Christmas I lost my glasses in the car. A blue case in a blue car! in the dark- no chance- spent hours searching but luckily they turned up next day under the driving seat. After that I vowed to have a second pair for emergencies. I think the last ones cost £25 from Specsavers so i am no longer stranded!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
