Hi everyone, need a bit of advice.
My wife walked out of her job:mad: not the most clever thing to do, especially with our financial situation and a baby on the way!!
Anyway, my question is would we be entitled to any benefits. Im on a very low income(self employed-taxi driver)
Thanks in advance
Azad

She could claim JSA but you could be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks as she quit work0

You could claim working tax credits.
Do you have children? ..... if not you will have to work 30 hours to be entitled and over 25.0 -

If she has worked for 26 weeks out of the last 66 weeks from her due date she can get Maternity Allowance which is about £125 a week.
Other than that she may get JSA until about 29 weeks pregnant, then I think she can go onto Income Support. They will look into your income and see of she qualifies.
When the baby is born you should get some child tax credits, and carry on getting income support if you qualify.LBM January 2017 £34k will have paid back finally by my DFD May 2021got my first store card on my 18th birthday, never known a life without the grey cloud of debt looming over me. 18yrs and the end is finally in sight 🤩0 -
She can't go on IS, but there is a possibilty of ESA if she is not entitled to maternity benefits. If she has worked for 26 weeks out of the last 66 weeks from her due date she can get Maternity Allowance which is about £125 a week.

Yes, sorry, Ive got confused there, its the 29 weeks that you have to stop being on IS (if you did qualify in the first place) isn't it, and then this ESA kicks in?LBM January 2017 £34k will have paid back finally by my DFD May 2021got my first store card on my 18th birthday, never known a life without the grey cloud of debt looming over me. 18yrs and the end is finally in sight 🤩0

She would not qualify as she is not a single mum or a carer.Yes, sorry, Ive got confused there, its the 29 weeks that you have to stop being on IS (if you did qualify in the first place) isn't it, and then this ESA kicks in?
You are correct about the JSA [dependent on NI conts or capital and income; but most likely to be sanctioned]
After 29 weeks she should go on MA/SMP but if she has not got entitlement then she could go on ESA for a short period [I believe it ends when the baby is 2 weeks old], this is dependent on ni conts/ or income/savings.
edit- if someone already claims IS they would stay on it.0
