Mercers / Barclaycard problems

Hi all, I lost my job back in December (far too long story) and have used the opportunity to move back in with my mum and start college in September with a view to going to university once I have completed the required courses. However, I am saddled with about £6800 worth of debt. Which isn't too much of an issue as I have entered payment plans with all of them and shall be paying off as much as I can afford. The issue I have got is with Mercers. I owe Barclaycard approx £1800. Once I started missing payments and the debt was "passed on" I started getting letters from Mercers. I phoned them up and explained what was going on and arranged a payment plan. I was told interest and charges would be stopped. So far so good.
Then I moved. I got a statement from Barclays with interest and charges on it for a second time after I'd made the arrangement. I phoned them up to find out what was going on and they claim they have never heard of me! They put me straight through to a call centre where the person on the other end tried Mercers again and came back saying they didn't know who I was. I told the operative that I have letters from Mercers, it even says on my statement that Mercers are dealing with my account! Yet she said I'd have to call Barclaycard debt collections after 48 hours. Checked my bank account this morning and an automatic payment has gone out to Mercers!
Anyone else have passed experience of this. I'll be phoning the number I was given by Barclaycard tomorrow to discuss this so if anyone has some useful info it would help a lot.

Hi
Initally I had a few problems with Barclays, but after emailing the top guy my problems ceased and Barclays have been one of my easiest creditors to deal with.
Email Amer.Sajed@barclaycard.co.uk and explain your situation, otherwise I get the feeling that you may end up going around in circles and getting nowhereDMP mutual support thread member:3270 -
Thanks very much for that. I'll give it a go and see what happens.0

Got no joy on the email as yet. Also that money that was taken from me on the 29th seems to have gone nowhere. Phoning Barclaycard puts me through to Indian call centres who keep telling me I made a payment on the 24th but can't seem to grasp that more money was taken on the 29th and Mercers won't even listen and just put me through to Barclaycard.
Who else can I talk to about this?0 -
Mercers are Barclaycard and both, in my experience, are a nightmare to begin with. Have you tried writing to Barclaycard and asking them to deal with as an official complaint (put this in bold letters). If they respond all well and good, if not refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service. I had to go down this route to get any sense out of them.0

That is true, There is Barlcays, Barlcays Card Services, Barlcays Collections (Arrears payments) and Mercers (The actual debt collectors). Are all Barlcays.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

Yup it's all part of Barclays. But it seems to be a clear case of the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. That payment they took on the 29th still hasn't applied to my account so I can only presume they've pocketed the cash.0 -

I sent an email to Barclays Customer services using the complaint form and they've replied this morning saying someone from the relevant department will get back to me within 7 days.
Will let you know of the outcome.0
