Good download speeds but chronically slow browsers :-(

Options
Hi

I'm on Sky's Broadband Unlimited Package with a Windows XP Operating System.

My download speeds are fine (sorry don't have stats. here @ work but speed testers and pertsonal experience reveals no probs.) however accessing Websites (non-specific) via either my main browser IE7 or even Firefox is chronically slow.

Strangely sometimes if I highlight the URL in the address window of the browser when it's hanging and hit return on the keyboard I get access much quicker.

Also cutting and pasting the URL into the address window (rather than simply selecting a link or a favourite) is generally quicker.

Any ideas please folks as it's very frustrating.

Rgds

One possible reason could be a slow or erratic response from Sky's Domain Name Servers.

The result is that resolution of a URL to an IP address is slow. I ~think~ that most browsers cache the DNS data, so it would probably be most noticeable the first time you access a given URL.

Have you checked that the DNS address is the one that Sky recommend (or that it is being acquired automatically)?

Check for infections before looking elsewhere

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

    Thanks for the replies.

The DNS was the one Sky recommended but I had read that Sky's DNS Servers were poor so changed this to the Google DNS Server instead. Speed is still poor.

Only had a cursory glance, you might want to slim down all that bloat, especially if you have limited ram

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2436849

and try it without ad-aware, and kerio (replace with windows firewall), netxfer, and update IE to IE8, and avast to avast5

Unless you have identified a dns problem, then changing dns servers is another layer of complexity.
