Rip Off Vegetable Plants

I've just noticed that some seed companies are still selling carrot plug plants at the princely sum of up to £1.19 each!!!
I just wanted to warn novice gardeners about these companies who are jumping on the Grow Your Own bandwagon and ripping people off.
One plug plant = one carrot. A packet of seeds will cost you less than £2.00, and will give you hundreds of carrots.
Please don't fall for this marketing ploy. Get yourself some seeds and GYO from scratch. Seeds of Italy sell packets of 7000 for £1.85, and are the best value I've found so far.

You wouldn't be promoting your own products would you?
Also it isn't really a rip off, it is just a more expensive way of growing your own. The fact is that plug plants need looking after, they need compost, they need watering, feeding etc and this all costs money. The choice is there for customer to either as you say grow from scratch or get a headstart. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

£1.19 for one carrot plug i.e one carrot for a quid! (chokes on coffee!) Thats a complete and utter rip off - may as well go n' buy a bag of organic carrots for a couple of pound from Morrisons - save yourself £8 pounds and be as healthy!
Seeds of Italy are a good company - also stock some different veg too, cant see what the problem in recommending a cheap suppier of seeds is - Thompson and Morgan have us all in a grip as they are stocked by all.
and no I do not work for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
No. i don't work for them. I do have an allotment, and have just 'discovered' a really good company. That's all!0

It is an incredibly expensive and I would imagine, rather unsustainable way to grow your own http://www.moreveg.co.uk/ are also a good seed supplier.0

If you don't think £1.19 for one carrot is a rip off I would hate so see your grocery bill :eek:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
50p or less for a packet of carrots I saw some today in a cheap shop for 11p a packet selling off Urwins seeds0

Whether its a rip off or not the customer has a choice so its hardly there is only 1 choice and thats the rip off 10

Ah yeah, for some reason I was imagining £1.19 for like a 6 pack in my mind, yeah it does make it rather expensive doing it that wayThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
