If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

This question's been asked so many times in the past, and the normal answer is why would you want to? Use of any data you mine from it will almost certainly be illegal under the computer misuse act. It's also highly probable that there are no keyloggers that won't send the data to some criminal elsewhere, as well as you.

Saying that, I read that Stephen Wolfram uses one that logs the number of times he presses each key in each application every day. He probably designed it himself though, so no risk of it secretly being spyware.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

Well, this meets the requirements of 'free' http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/pykeylogger/index.php?title=Main_Page but it may require some intermediate skills to deploy. However, the use of such software (or hardware) is grey and is most likely to get you flamed.
  • Oh no.. no criminal acts going on here :)

    Just pure noseyness.

I give up on looking for one now.. they all seem rather useless! apart from the free trial ones that quickly expire!

    why not just use prorat.

Keyloggers aren't illegal they only become illegal if the user has intentions of using it to do something illegal

I.e keylog children to see what there doing.

If youve been installing and trying out various keyloggers than youve more than likely compromised your computer

At the very least id give it a few scans ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

IANAL but I have to agree. Intent playing a considerable role.

Exactly. You might not be aware of that your "noseyness" could be a criminal offense.
