Dry Cleaning issue. Can you help?

I hope somebody may be able to help me with this.
Last week I took a duvet to be dry cleaned. I took it to a dry cleaners near to where I work and was advised to collect it today (Tuesday).
Today (Tuesday) is my last day at work as the company I'm working for has made all staff redundant and the company is closing today.
I went to collect my duvet and noticed a sign saying that they don't accept credit cards. I tried to pay on my debit card and was told that they don't accept those either (no mention of this on the sign though).
There is no working ATM machine close to where I work and I have no other means of paying as I don't carry cash. After asking some colleagues if I can borrow some money they all said the same as me in that they hardly carry cash.
Now comes the interesting bit. I live a 2 hour drive away from where I currently work (over the Severn Bridge). I won't be coming over to Wales after today as my new job which I start on Monday is close to where I live.
If I make a special trip to the dry cleaners am I within my rights to deduct travel costs and a bridge toll?

In a word, No."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
This has got to be a wind up, right? If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

No.
Morally, they should have advised you they dont take debit or credit cards but they dont have to.
Its neither their fault you dont carry cash or that their isnt a working atm nearby or that you chose to use a service a large distance from your home when you knew you would not be going there much longer.
I know not all these are your fault wither but that doesnt mean you can pin them with extra costs. You should have double checked when you booked it in.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Great post OP - made me laugh...0

This is a serious post. What do we do now as we are going to be cold until we get another duvet0

Buy a quilt for a tenner in the supermarket. Cheaper than the dry cleaning bill anyway.
And try driving a little further to find a cash machine. You already did 2 hours' worth, so another 15 minutes won't kill.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

What, why? Just go and get yours, surely it works out cheaper if you include the cost of the dry clean, because if they have your number or address theyre still legally entitled to payment as they have provided a service. So yo may end up paying for a service you didnt benefit from.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Are you saying that the nearest cash point was 2 hours drive away over a toll bridge?
Why didn't you just drive to a cash machine, get some cash, then go pick the duvet up?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
