Plants by post
Hi everyone,
I'm new to gardening and I want to send my sister and friend some plants by post as a thank you for their help, which websites would you recommend.
Also I'm looking to buy some fruit trees for my garden, when is a good time to plant them?
Thanks for your help.

What a lovely idea, I would love to receive plants through the post as a present! Be warned though - it is easy to get carried away!
I use Thompson and Morgan (www.thompsonandmorgan.com) when buying plants. They have a good choice, and often have some good special offers. There offers are often posted on this forum, so keep an eye out. There are also often codes for free P&P floating around. They have recently had a sale on fruit trees but I'm not sure how much of a choice they have left.
Crocus.co.uk is also highly rated for quality plants, but I think they are more expensive than Thompson and Morgan.
You can plant fruit trees at any time, though late autumn to early spring is best, as it gives the roots a chance to establish whilst the tree is not growing. Most experts seem to reccommend planting in October, so the tree is fully settled before it's spring growth.

Thompson and Morgan are good. If the trees are pot grown then you can baicially plant them any time but as rose says, best in Autumn. Your sister could keep it in the pot and well watered until she wants to plant it. Remember also that some fruit trees require a companion tree to ensure good fertilisation
