Knocking doors I have found 99.9% of people are really kind and helpful, the other .01% seem to dominate these pages.

I agree fully, you see its because many people are happy to complain about something they dont like or in a lot of cases dont understand yet very few will spend as much time saying what a good experience they have had with a company or representative of a company!

Btw, chinup, I would take any "legal advice" on blogspot with a big pinch of salt because that's a blogging site, and shouldn't be relied on for such things, even if the blogger is legally qualified.

I know 2 people who blog on blogspot (Linkara and Iron Liz) and they don't post anything like legal advice, they post like diary stuff.
  • Yes, door step sellers should be banned..........full stop......!!
I agree to leaflets advertising good/services, but no direct contact.
You should not be approached in your own home, for goodness sake !
The cold callers completely ignore the 'do not call at this door' signs............a vulnerable relative of mine has now been targeted 3 times.............I have contacted Trading Standards, Consumer Direct and the Police. This company has even been on the Watchdog programme 'Rogue Traders' (which I actually think is too polite a description for these sharks)..........there doesn't seem an awful lot that can be done about these unscrupulous people.................with respect to some of the advice given here on the threads, some elderly people are not confident to say 'no' or simply are not fully aware of what is happening....................we MUST protect our elderly folk........................it is shameful what is going on behind closed doors......................if you heard someone being pressurised in a public environment, you would surley intervene?....I do not know how these people can sleep at night knowing they have 'conned' people out of large sums of money........sorry to rant but I feel strongly about this!!

Please think carefully about this cold calling ban business. I feel very strongly that as we grow older people, with all good intentions, raise our anxiety levels. This to me is a great disservice and leads to social isollation and being housebound. I would prefer to retain control over my own front door and cherish the opportunity of meeting new people and retaining links with the community. I heard someone recently on Noth West news saying that carol singers were imposing on people! We are solitary enough. Please do not 'keep me safe' any more, thanks all the same
If I want to be an isolated, miserable old get, that's my choice to make and enforce.
