Chevvy Cruse

I dislike hatchbacks, but it is quite difficult to find a saloon under my budget of £20K. I have to buy new to get the employer's interest free loan. I am considering buying a new Chevrolet Cruse (conventional auto-box) - opinion in the motoring press seems to rate these much higher than the earlier Lacetti. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of these?

Sorry, "Cruze". I was looking at the 1.8 petrol automatic. (TS?) I don't do a high enough mileage to warrant a diesel.

Is 20k your absolute max and you'd ideally rather pay much less, or are you happy to pay £20k?

Subaru Legacy 2.0 Auto £20,200.
Honda Accord 2.0 Auto £20,400.
Lexus IS £20,500

The Cruze will do the job. Just bargain hard - heavy discounts should be achievable on these.

£20K is absolute max and I'd rather pay less. Thanks for the tip about bargaining hard. Should I worry about the reasons why heavy discounts should be available? Can't dealers shift them?

I'd look at the Kia Magentis too, I think it starts at under £20k

Personally I think the new one looks quite smart, plus it has the 7 year warranty.
