Im looking to purchase a number of laptop computers for my company and want to get a view of the running costs i.e. electricity usage. I have contacted the manufacturer who provided 2 pieces of information as following:

  • Input Current 1.5A
  • Output current, (with 65W power adapter) 3.34A (with 90W adapter) 4.62A

Assuming each lap was used (plugged in and drawing electricity) every working day for an average of 8 hours a day.

How much is it going to cost me in £s a year to run eachlaptop?

Many Thanks

    The input current is 1.5 amps, we need to find out what that is in Watts.
    Watts = I x V, so 1.5 x230 = 345 Watts or 0.345 Kw.

    This is probably a maximum rating and more than the device will actually consume.
    Al you have to do now is decide how long they will be switched on, and how much you are paying for your electricity per Kilowatt hour.

    0.345 x number of laptops x on time in hours per month x £/unit = £ cost per month.

    Do your sums and Robert will be a close relative.
