Help Needed With Apple Store

Hi there,

I bought a macbook pro last friday..

The issue i have is its advertised in store for 999 but when i tried to buy one the sales assistant told me that i could not purchase it without paying a additional 79.99 for there one to one service (basic training and file transfer service ).. I double checked this with him as didnt sound right to be told that that was 100% the case and i could not buy it without the additional service ..

Since being back at work and mentioning it to a couple of colleagues we decided to call another apple store to be told that wasnt the case at all and they appologise if i had been lead to belive that ..

My question is can i return the laptop for a full refund as im that angry i was lied to instore or would i have to pay the 10% restocking fee to add to the insult .. (as it has been opened)

Thanks for looking

Ollie

    D3ckt,

I suggest you speak to your local Trading Standards.

This is a misleading action under CPRs and needs to be reported. A criminal offence appears to have been committed here and that might be your best course of action in getting a 'no hassle' refund.

If it is a criminal offence it should be reported to the police!!

Why not just go back and ask for a refund of the one to one service.

Have you read the T&C's of the One to One service?

One to One membership is only available at the time of purchase to those customers who buy their Apple Macintosh computer (hereinafter “Mac”) in an Apple Retail Store, from the Apple Online Store (www.store.apple.com/uk) or through Apple Telesales (0800 048 0408). For the purpose of these Terms and Conditions, the “time of purchase” may extend from the day of your Mac purchase until the end of Apple’s 14-day return period. If you decide to return your Mac, you will receive a full refund on your One to One membership and your account will be deactivated.

Why on earth you would need to contact trading standards is beyond me.

Some folk on here cant f@rt without involving trading standards.
  • If you are really that bothered, make a complaint to Apple after getting the refund. Apple Stores aren't supposed to be about getting the hard sell, so they won't like that. (not to say they aren't a very savvy business, just that they don't want to be perceived in the same light as - spit - PC World)

Personally, I'd be so happy to have a lovely new MBP, that I'd be fine once I got the refund (but then again, I wouldn't have bought the transfer service anyway, as I know full well how to do it all myself - and would not be afraid to say so/walk away if I thought I was being patronised like that).
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Because stores like Apple shouldn't get away with conning people.
