Apply for a Nationwide Flexaccount from outside the UK?

Hi,

I'm currently working abroad (ie: outside the UK) and would like to apply for a Nationwide Flexaccount for its benefits (1% or free charges when used abroad, namely).

I do have an address I could use in the UK - but my problem lies here; I will not be returning to that address for a while, and I would want all documentation/cards/PINs/etc to be mailed to my address abroad.

Is this possible?

I would be very surprised if they would do this.

It would probably be best if they are delivered to your UK address and then you get a family member to courier them to you using FedEx or someone similar.

That's what I would do anyway.
  • Thing is - nobody lives in my UK address at the moment!

Who is going to send them on then?

Thats not the only issue, you may not get the full FlexAccount as they will ask for employers details etc.

The basic version (cashcard account) will not be as cheap for use abroad.

That was my point - I was hoping Nationwide could "accept" an account based in the UK, but refrain from sending things to my UK address, but send them immediately abroad.

I have an account with RBS who do exactly that, which is very, very useful.

The problem with this approach is that they stipulate you must be a UK resident when opening an account.

Also, they have been getting tougher on those they suspect are just getting the account for the overseas use. There is the strong possibility that you may only get the cashcard version.

I guess I'll lay down from Nationwide then and try and find another option.

    Thanks again :)

Good point - but the reason I'm looking into Nationwide is for their low-fees when used abroad. The money/time it would take to visit the UK, arrange for re-direction, etc would probably outweigh any benefits!

Looking into getting an ICE card instead. Bit apprehensive because they're not listed much on MSE..
