Help please : Motor Insurance query ?
Options
Dear All,
Hopefully somebody can help with my vehicle insurance query.
I currently have a company car that is insured via work.
My wife has a car, but this is insured in my name and she is a named driver (as she does not have a previous history or no claims bonus).
I have now been offered a new job without a company car, and need to buy (and insure) a car for myself.
How would this work ? - as I already effectively already have vehicle insurance, does my wife need to take out seperate cover in her own name or is there some way we can combine the two ?
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

It may be possible with some insurance companies (I know some comparison sites ask the question) to transfer no claims bonus from company cars to a private car. At least I'm assuming that as the comparison sites ask where your no claims is comming from.0

Thanks sebdangerfield.
As we already have a car insured in my name this is not a problem (my wife is named on the insurance, although effectively she drives the car most of the time as I currently have a company car).
If I now buy another car, would I have to insure this and then my wifer will need to start her own insurance or is there some way that we can combine the two (eg. I effectively insure 2 vehicles - taking advantage of my no claims discount - and name my wife on a policy so that she is covered ?).
I hope that this makes sense !0 -
It's fine for you to insure 2 cars as policy holder with your wife as named driver on both cars but she should be declared as main driver on the policy of the car she drives the most.
Also you can only use your personal NCB on one car at a time though some insurance companies will mirror your current NCB onto the new car for the first year as an incentive for you to insure with them.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
