Can income from Arbing/Matched-betting be counted against you for Housing-Benefit??

Options
I claim housing benefit, jobseekers allowance, council tax benefit, and discretionary-housing-payments in 6-month chunks.

However ive started now Arbing and Matched-betting on a daily basis to earn a few hundred pounds extra cash profit every month.

I know that income from Arbing doesn't have to be declared to anyone and is non-taxable.

However i have to resubmit a claim every 6months for the extra discretionary housing benefit payments
and so im abit worried that if i keep having all the income from arbing coming into my main bank account where benefits money is paid into,
and i then have to show that bank statement to the council when i send in the form for discretionary housing benefit they will reject my claim based on my income.

Are they legally allowed to reject you based on income that is disregarded for benefits though??

Because if they would im going to have to open another bank account and have all my arbing income paid into there from now onwards,
but it seems alot of hassle having to do that. :(

I assume would be able to reject you (though someone may correct me) because discretionary housing payments are just that, discretionary! You are not applying for a means tested benefit that you would be legaly entitled to if you met the criteria with income & savings! They are awarded based on if you have the means to meet the payment yourself. If you have the means either in full or partly you dont get it and the money can go to those who dont have the means.

Oh and opening a new bank account to hide such money is called benefit fraud!

Wow, jobseekers allowance must pay a lot if it allows you to make several hundreds of pounds profit every month on arbing/match betting.

Is that the one who tried to get a pregnant friend move into with him in his 1 room rented studio so he could be an interim landlord and pimp off her housing benefit?

Who reckoned he was a successful energy trader but didn't need to pay tax?

Who reckoned he ran a limited company in a relative's name to hide the income and better qualify for benefits?

Whose employment income was once so low that he spent the majority of it renting self-contained accommodation because he deserved the lifestyle?

Is this the same one or have I muddled a number of trolls?

Certainly the first paragraph but I am not sure about the rest!

It is best to ignore them or take the p*ss out of if you feel like it.

I am also amazed that this particular AE has lasted so long!

Hi and thanks for your reply. :)

I have no intention of committing fraud, and so will make sure that when i do fill in the DHPs form that i answer all the questions on their accurately

Itd just be far easier to have a seperate account for my matched-betting income and for my normal bank account where all bills and money goes in and out of.

Im not doing anything illegal though, i know that for a fact, as there is no requirement for me to ''have to keep doing this to earn extra income''.
And so i could choose to pause doing it for 1month, fill in the DHP form with the info about my income that would be correct and accurate at the time of filling it in,
and then a few days later i could then choose to restart arbing again abut don't legally need to declare it to the benefits service.

Ummmm, if this activity continues for any length of time, you might have to answer some very difficult questions raised by HMIT. I would suggest that they see this as a 'business' and as such it is fully disclosable to them as well as the DWP/JC+. In my years with HMIT, many was the time that prostitutes (trading as Personal Services ) and so called 'second hand dealers (in stolen goods) ( trading as General Dealers ) were legally required to submit accounts and pay tax/nic on their profit. You could say how they found out - information received = investigation! Besides which, all of your activities will be recorded and those records can and will be used against you!

In your case, yes you can stop and start when you want - this can apply to many business ventures : musicians, songwriters, novelists, party planners etc.

If HMIT don't get you the DWP will!!

Thanks for tips but i know for a solid legal fact that even though matched-betting is risk-free,
its still classed under 'gambling' for tax and benefits-disregard purposes,
and so by law does NOT have to be declared to the tax-man or to the benefits service.

I only earn £150 - £250 per week from it anyways so not especially big money.

But im not prepared to miss out on dhps for this though.
