Dont get involved with these so called training courses. All that will happen is that they will take your money and leave you with some worthless bit of paper.

Its obvious really. Why is it that proper electrical apprenticeships can be three years and up and yet these clowns say they can train you to be a plumber/bricklayer/electrician etc in 20 weeks...rubbish. The best training will be had from an employer who recruits you as an apprentice.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

You will have to check with the college, but if these are not supplied with the course i reccomend this one for level 2 as it is also a help for level 3

Whilst agreeing with you about short courses, full time study really isn't essential for mature students. Many full time college courses are only 3 1/2 days per week with added padding like key skills that many adults don't require. Motivated, mature students can cover as much ground in 2 evenings a week as teenagers manage on a full time course, which is why both groups are often working towards the same qualification.
So what you are saying is that as an engineer, plus someone who has gone through full training, an employer and a trainer and 35 years experience that I am talking through my 4r$e, there is no way you can cover a full time course in 2 nights, an apprenticeship is about more than classroom theory, it also requires a great deal of practical and I for one will not tak anyone on who has not done any at leats equal amount of practical and field training as they have done classroom work, this type of course may be fine for domestic electrics but I can assure you any decent industrial electrician need a lot more training to come to the minimum standard, my field teams get paid with overtime an amount that had they been un UK would put them in the higher tax bracket, but they earn that and I class them as the elite amongst their various trades and they have worked hard for it, all bar one is a time served apprentice the exception made it as a journeyman who also went to college so did in effect do an apprenticeship and trust me if you apply here with only a part time evening course your application would not even reach me for selection.

I agree 100% with what you have said jimbms & BillTrac, having done the 2 year course at college it would be impossible to fit all that information into a "short course" and for someone to understand it all.

Even now after my 2 years of study while looking for apprenticeships I can safely say that i do not feel 100% competent to undertake some electrical jobs without supervision + guidance, until i get enough experience, something that will never be taught on the short course

It wasnt something I had really thought about until an electrician talked to my son and I about working with asbestos and the danger to electricians. My son says they have not covered this at college(he has been there 1 year of 3 year course) this electrician was surprised the college had not covered it yet. Can I ask when you did this on your course?

hehehe I did mine in the 70's it was still safe then, but I can't remember when we had a formal course on it, sometime late 80's I believe.
