Hi,
Looking for some advice.
I am taking the kids to Disneyland Paris July 31st - August 3rd. We have decided to drive from out home in North-West England, and take the Channel Tunnel Train around midnight on thhe first day.
My dilemna is, do I book the supersaver tunnel and come straight home after Disney or do I extend our stay for about a week and see some of France.
We have never been to France before. I would like to stay in a chalet or villa; something with a pool for the kids. Can anyone recommend where to stay? What there is in France to see? My kids are 7 and 8 (Girl and Boy).
Thanks

I would say if you have the time see some of France. There are some beautiful places in France and lots of little towns. I sound like i am speaking from experience however i havent yet been, but i have done a huge amount of research as we leave for our trip next Sunday. We will be staying just outside of Paris on a campsite called La Croix Du Vieux Pont and will be using it as a base to visit DLP, Paris, Soissons,Pierrefonds Chateu and Armistice site in Compiegne. We will have our 2yr old with us who has done a fair bit of travelling so far. I just love taking her new places!! Look up Owners direct to hire a gite otherwise stay on a campsite or B&B. Hope u enjoy your trip.0

We have driven in France a few times-kids in tow.
We travelled from the West coast of Wales to Dordogne, South of France with 3 under 4's, in one day. So I call myself an expert now!!!
On another trip we have been to disneyland paris but did nbot visit anywhere else at the time - would have liked to. If you can - go for it!
We are back to Dordogne later this year (inlaws live there), but we plan to go to DLP on the way back.
Take some kids travel sickness tablets with you, just incase. My son decided that one we were in France he would be sick wnhenever the car moved for the whole break. Was fine when we switched back to the right side of the road in the UK. Nothing worse then pulling over on the French motorways them miming to the French policeman why!
Have a fun trip!0 -
I would try and extend the stay to a week there is so much to see do and enjoy.I would say if you have the time see some of France. There are some beautiful places in France and lots of little towns. We are going to the same camp in August, we have not been there before but it came recommended as an ideal base. I would love to hear what you think of it when you return. Our children are teens so we will be adding Parc Asterix to the list with out tesco clubcard tickets, otherwise we seemed to have planned the same trips as yourself.0 -
Sounds like a great trip!
If you've never been to France before I would definitly stay. You'll already be there so might as well make the most of it!
Le Havre is a really lovely area near the coast. You'll be close enough so that on the last day that you have to drive back you won't be too far.
If you're up for it, there are some amazing campsites and static caravan sites near the coast. We did a camping trip last summer from France, Italy and Switzerland. The 'basic' accomodation was pretty impressive, nothing near to what you'd find in England. Also, they have some great holiday parks if you're not up for the camping. This would be great as they are really geared toward children in Europe and make sure that kids won't get bored.
Hope this helps! Have a wonderful trip!0 -
You may well be driving down from Calais on teh busiest Saturday in the year is the only downside I can see. Many of the french holiday from the first SAturday in August and pack teh roads out espeically travelling out from Paris
France is a huge country and plenty to see and do depends on how far you want to travel from Euro Disney area after your visit there. Also Auigust will be very expensive to get in anywhere especially now
I would recommend after a few days in Disney to maybe head out to the coast somewhere like Vendee region and take in some beaches. August weather would be hot down that far, and even Normandy and Brittany should still be warm and hopefully dry, although a reasonable drive from that side of Paris. In fact you may wish to head back up to the Nord / Pas de Calais region and maybe look at somewhere like Le Touquet area (maybe Berck or Stella Plage) as lovely beaches but much closer (only an hour or so) to Calais. Weather would be similar to far south of UK / channel islands
It will be a lot of driving if you are coming a fair way in the Uk to start
