Good point! I'm taking Mikeyork's advice and going to manage it all manually. I currently have just under £1000 worth of outgoing payments each month (flexible by a couple of days), so I guess I'll just pay all those from my Santander account over a couple of days, especially since I'll always have my £2,500 interest-earning balance in there as a buffer.

Anyone know how long it takes Santander to open new accounts from the moment someone applies online? I applied 2 days ago, and I'm really struggling to get an update on my application status. Quite keen to get my account details so I can transfer some money in before the weekend!
