Burnt our carpet!

We are renting and have accidentally burn our carpet due to dropping the iron, woops!
Our deposit for the flat was around £800. It says in our agreement that any damage can be rectified by the tenant as long as we fit a suitable substitute.
We aren't sure whether it would be better to claim on our home insurance (and have inevitably higher premiums next year) or to take the hit out our deposit. Would they take a proportion of the deposit?
Any information appreciated!

Premiums do not necessarily have to rise after a claim. I claimed 2 years ago fro the loss of a gold bracelet and it didnt
affect mine (yes, i did stay with the same company) why dont you ring them and enquire.
Failing that, could you afford to replace the carpet now without waiting for the deposit hit. If you buy it now you at least will have the opportunity to shop around rather than the landlord charging you top price.
You should also, i suppose, consider what your excess is.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Unless its a huge room surely you could get a decent carpet laid for under £200. Less if you lay it yourself?0
