How to play Blu-Ray discs on my laptop

Hi, I have an Acer 8935 laptop with a built in Blu-Ray/DVD/CD drive/player.

I normally play CDs, DVDs and mpg video files using VLC or Windows Media Player.

I’ve just got my first Blu-Ray disk (Springsteen’s London Calling) but it won’t play.

VLC says “Your input can't be opened:….VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://F:\'. Check the log for details.

WMP says “Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disc was created in a manner that the Player does not support.”

Do I just need to download the right codecs for VLC and WMP and, if so, what are they?

Or do I need to get a different software player that plays Blu-Rays. If so, what should I get?

Or do I have a problem?

The files on the disk are visible and readable in Windows Explorer so I assume that the built in hardware drive/player is ok and I just need to sort out the software player.

Thanks. :)

Your laptop should have "Acer Arcade" installed from when it was new ....that should play your Blu-Ray disk.

My Acer Aspire Desktop did not have any software to play BR and I had to use PowerDVD to be able to watch them.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

    Thanks

It did have Acer Arcade but I bought it a few months ago from AcerDirect, as "new old stock" from just before the launch of Windows7.

It came preloaded with Vista and part of the deal was an extra £39 for Windows7.

For some reason I couldn’t create backups of Vista etc as the process just kept stalling. I wasn’t bothered by that as I didn’t want Vista and didn’t think I would ever use any of the Acer stuff, so I just formatted the disk and installed Windows7 and my own stuff.

I can probably get a copy of Arcade but I presume there are a few other decent players around.

I used PowerDVD on my previous Dell laptop so I will try that.

    Thanks
