M&S store delivery selection

I recently placed an online order with M&S. I nearly checked out, having selected store delivery (so no delivery charge) and the requierd date. Then I remembered something else I wanted to add to my order, went back, added it and checked out. Meanwhile, the delivery option had defaulted back to home delivery, I hadn't noticed - and now I have to pay £3.50 for home delivery that I did not want. I emailed and explained, expecting good old M&S to be understanding, given that their system sneakily defaults to expensive home delivery, but they said yah boo sucks.
So be VERY CAREFUL when updating your shopping basket, and make sure that everything you have already selected - delivery option, any vouchers, multibuy offers - has been retained.
That's it for me: no more M&S online.

And your point is? Have you been scammed?
One gathers not, but to save any future problem. I would take the three pin plug from the socket and cut it in half. This should prevent the Seat Computer Interface from performing in an erratic manner again.0 -
So you made a mistake, but you expect M&S to refund you? You would have had to select the delivery address again when the system went back to home delivery, did you not read what you were doing? Your email receipt also very clearly states at the top of the message Delivery Address.
The lesson is to read what you are agreeing to!Gone ... or have I?0 -
Your sympathy is truly overwhelming - I'm moved to tears.
All I wanted to do was warn people that their shopping basket options will change on the M&S website and - if they're as speedy as I am on the computer - they may not notice. With regard to the refund: as someone who runs my own business, if a loyal customer who has spent (literally) thousands with me asks for a measly £3.50 refund, I am inclined to say yes.
However, in future I will think twice about exposing my own stupidity to spare others from the same mistake. And could I suggest - in the nicest possible way - that a reception like yours will put people off contributing useful information to this forum. As you advise, I've read it carefully, and will learn not to contribute.0 -
And I'm not sure about Freddie being "right" and "an expert", but he's certainly patronising. Back to the pub with you, to be with your own kind!:beer:0

Your first post implied that the fault was that of M&S, which it clearly was not. What did you expect people to say - naughty M&S?
More haste less speed.Gone ... or have I?0 -
No - all I expected was what it says at the top of every page of MSE: "Be nice to all MoneySavers".
And by the way, M&S have now got back to me and offered a refund - they say:
Having checked your account, I appreciate how good of a customer you have been and we don't want to lose your business. I have checked with our technical department and it appears that this error was not your fault, but due to technical issues with our system and you should not have to pay for it.
So they seem to accept that it's a sytem fault rather than a user fault, but not you.
As I say, lesson learnt here - life is nasty enough on the outside, without logging on to have people tell me off (unnecessarily). As you're keen on your cliches: things aren't always as they seem.0 -
Wrote it myself? It would never occur to me - but it obviously occurs to you. And do you think my grammar includes "how good of a customer"? So far we've been joking, and I admit that I look at bit ranting (which is half the fun), but this is not funny. It's libellous, and I'm reporting it to the Forum manager, along with the email from M&S to prove my innocence. I have to say that I am shocked - I've never known a forum develop like this.0

OK, you report me to the Forum Manager for telling you that you had made up an email!
I would not expect anyone to use the phrase 'how good of a customer' because it is gramatically incorrect. I know the email is a blatant lie because it is not a technical error, it is the way the M&S website has always worked. It must also be a big old coincidence that M&S just happened to completely backtrack and email you in the short time since you posted on here!Gone ... or have I?0 -
1. What you believe is immaterial - I have the email here.
2. M&S do reply quickly - and they did. One of those little coincidences that happen so rarely.
3. I've already reported you.
4. I'm off for a walk in the sunshine - I suggest you do the same. :rotfl:0 -

One of those coincidences that always happens when someone wants to stop looking stupid (and no, I am not calling you stupid, they are your own words)!
You enjoy your walk, and I'm sure the £3.50 charge will not break the bank.Gone ... or have I?0
