When should I start an annual worldwide travel policy

I am trying to book a world wide travel insurance policy for me and my husband.
We are going to America in Sept and booked it yeaterday, we are also going to Paris in Dec so an annual would work out cheaper.
My question is I get asked on the compare sites when I would like the policy to start, I was going to put 2nd Sep, as that is when we are travelling, but then it says if something happens before that, you will not be covered?

So do I book it from now, I have only booked single trips up to now
Thanks to all who post comps :)

if you wish to be covered for cancellation costs then date it now, if you are only really interested in being covered when actually abroad then date it from september

I would like to be covered for a cancellation, so will put it now.
I have seen the notes about travelling with medical conditions, I have high blood pressure and am on tablets, Does anyone know of a good travel insurance, that would not cost the earth?

I can't remember what Direct Travel load the premium by for HBP, but I'm fairly sure it's not more than £16.
