Options
Hello!

For all those of you interested in theatre but find it rather pricey, Kids Week is an event that runs every summer in the West End. This year it runs from 13th - 27th August. :j

It enables one child (aged 5-16) a free ticket with every paying adult - the ultimate BOGOF offer! :j Two further children's tickets can be brought at half-price. :j

Most shows in the West End take part in this initiative including, Billy Elliot, The Lion King, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Les Mis, Phantom, Sister Act and Wicked. Kids week website has all the details...

Well, I've had an email to let me know that booking opens on 13th July for this years event and ticket allocation go quickly. So if you are planning to go or think this is great and it's encouraging you to go - get in early!

I tried for about an hour earlier but couldn't get anything I wanted & the website drove me potty! I will try again as sometimes more seats become available, or the volume of bookers decreases after the initial excitement. Fingers crossed...

Wanted Lion King, and was on there dead on 10am but it had already sold out.

Booked Mamma Mia instead, 3 of us going for £60 in £40 seats, so am chuffed with that as wanted to see it for ages.

I don't think many theatres would be keen on you taking under 5s, unless its a show specifically designed for little ones.

We usually get Kids Week tickets but do check the Ticketmaster website first as we got tickets for £22.50 to Lion King last year so was cheaper than Kids Week. They did have £10 tickets but we could not make those shows so do have a look for those.

We did, the year before last, get the free kids meal at Rainforest Cafe but they were late seating us and we nearly missed the show because it was in Hammersmith, we then had to rush dinner so last year we just booked cheap matinee tickets for Lion King and went to Pizza Express round the corner and the kids ate off the Kids Menu. Much more relaxed and the same price because the price of adult meals at RC is expensive. My DD loves it and we try to go to the theatre every summer.

There were some under 5's but it is a long show and they do get bored and make a noise - depending on the show I think it is pretty much expected at Matinees from the ones I have been to. LK is AMAZING. My 6yo DD was transfixed for the full show.

But you do have to pay for under 5's - they just try to discourage you taking them, hence the offer is for 5-16's. Just think of Saturday morning Cinema with loads of toddlers running around and screaming, it is distracting for others - especially if they have paid £50+ to see the show.

ETA: Just looked for Wicked and they have £17.50 seats for the show I checked so please be aware that you MAY pay more for the Kids Week offers as they usually only offer full price seats for Kids Week
