AVOID Streamline.net!!! Problems with them: is it worth fighting?

Hello,

I bought a webhosting with Streamline.net two years ago and never got a problem until now.
2 weeks ago Streamline.net took £80 from my account without telling me. I had a call from my bank to enquire if this payment was genuine which is how I discovered what they had just done.

It was for the 2 years renewal of my webhosting and when reading more carefully the terms and conditions (stupid me for not doing this 2 years ago!!!) it was written that they could take the money if the account wasn't cancelled at least 7 days before renewing.

I never thought a company would be allowed to do that!
On top of that they put the prices up by £30!!!! And I never got an email for that either...

I contacted them and obvioulsy they said they had sent an email a month ago which is a big lie, they don't want to refund me the money obviously...

I didn't think it was worth fighting for this money since but now reading all the messages about those cow-boys on this forum, I'm wondering if I shouldn't do something about it. I didn't properly read the Terms & Conditions which is my fault but it doesn't mention that they are allowed to put prices up.

Thanks for your help.

And to the people reading this thread because you have made a search on streamline, avoid them!!!!!! I am always so careful with internet companies that it really makes me so angry that I got tricked!!!!

    Theres your problem.

You won't get anywhere if you try and go to court with them or anything.

Your fault, you have to deal with the consequences. It's as bad as those that complain about bank charges.

    ----

If I was incharge of the company, I'd do exactly the same. It's not my fault customers can't be bothered to read T&Cs.

    Wow, such strong accusations.

I am a happy customer of Streamline, have been for 6 years. Never had an issue with them.

Maybe its your attitude. If you lighten up a little, they will be more willing to help.

If it was me at the other end of your attitude, I wouldnt help you either! :rotfl:

Actually they "might" have a case for unfair contract terms.
From OFT unfair contract terms lit (listing unfair contract terms):
the business varying the terms after they
have been agreed, for instance, so as to
supply a different product, raise the price,
    or reduce consumers' rights

You're effectlively looking at a 60% price hike. The reason i mention this is that my local trading standards informed me that if a price rise is over a certain percentage (i cant remember the percentage she told me, but it wasnt anywhere near 60%), they need to allow you to cancel or accept the new price.

Of course this may depend on whether or not the OP got a special discount. As it would likely be the full price taken into consideration and not the discounted price.

Its a longshot but its worth a shot. Contract your local trading standards and they'll be able to advise if you have any claim.

I'm terrible at remembering renewal dates. I really should get a online diary or something (do have real diary but the problem is i forget to check it!)

I've had dealings with Streamline - they refused to transfer a domain unless they were paid for a further 2 years hosting.

    Have a read here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews66682.html

I'd agree - they are not a good company to deal with

Thanks a lot unholyangel for that tip. :T
I will definitely go and see my local trading standards. There was no discount 2 years ago, it was just the price at the time. I have nothing to lose anyway in going for a chat.

Garetha, thanks for that link. Seeing all the problems this company have created with some of their customers makes me a bit little relieved in a weird way... I should have read the T&C more carefully, my mistake but at the same time this link prove that if they can trick you, they will do it.

Ofcourse there will still be some people who say they are a good company but seeing so many bad reviews about them on the net should really make you think twice before signing up with them.
A webhosting company that keeps your credit card details is dodgy anyway, in my opinion.
