2004 04 Reg JAGUAR X-TYPE 2.0D SPORT - anything to watch out for? Bro has set his mind on having one and I've been roped into going along. Ex-trade so I know about the usual checks but been out of it long enough not to know about any common issues with this.

For one I'd avoid the Sport - the spec is a bit wanting.0 -
its a mondaguar nuff said
make sure the turbos got loads of go and no excess smoke when revved hard
gear box should be nice and slick and listen for/feel for a rattling dmf,
otherwise buy a specced up mondeo imo0 -

the engine is the same as some fords and peugeot/citroen stuff,i dont think it has any major problems apart from the EGR valves coke up and can stick.
i toyed with the idea of x-type a while back and found the SE to be best spec for me,it seemed to have more than the sport and the suspension did not seem as hard.0 -

I have a 04 plate MK3 Mondeo TDCi 130 and the specs sound the same so am I right in guessing its probably the same motor? I know what to look for on those cars and how well it should pull so should be OK then
EGR valve - done mine already and also done the mod on it so OK with that.
OK...so the sport is basically a cleverly named poverty spec one. He's travelling decent mileage to look at it so I'll mention that to him.0 -
Sports are VERY basic at that age. Try to get an 06 spec one as they get loads of extra's.
EGR is the only thing we do on them. The DMF's last longer on the Jaaaaaaaaaags for some reason - maybe Jag drivers are more careful of their "prestige" motor...0 -
had a diesel se for 2 years and to be honest it has been great,no major problems ,had egr cleaned at last service for peace of mind only cost an extra £30,they seem to get through tyres pretty quick, and some can have problems with lower wishbones,,we are only selling ours as we need an estate,.i had a sport for a while as well and liked the piano black dash and interior, but the leather and wood look more traditional.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. pretty much the same
i always found them cramped not my cup of tea imo they tarnished the badge with these things,0 -
Always liked the x-type because of the shape. More Jag than Rover 75.
Ended up with the 130 tdci ghia x as well and loved it.0 -

yep basically same as your mondey, same floor pan and running gear think the key is even the same just got different badge.0 -
EGR is common, Blocking it cures that, But on a 2004 onwards you get the EML on which shows lack of flow on a code reader.
DMF = £600 - £1200 ish... depends if it needs a new starter as well.
Injectors = £1000 and need coding by ford or a specialist, Cannot simply swap them for new ones.
Other than that, usualy stuff that goes on any car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
