Conservatory plants

Hello

I have a conservatory on the back of my house, which gets hotter than the sun in this weather. Okay, this is a minor exaggeration but it is absolutely baking hot in there when the sun is on it all day.

I want to grow some plants in my conservatory to brighten the place up but I don't know what will survive!

Does anyone have any suggestions at all please?

Thank you

Would citrus plants be ok I wonder? They need plenty of light, and I guess they are 'used' to hot weather...

Citrus will suffer, they like it warm, not baking [I put mine outside in summer]

    Cactus?

Conservatories are a very awkward, too hot or too cold

Can you open doors & windows? I have to do this, and even so it is 90F in there at times

You would need some sort of desert plant I reckon, which is why I suggested cactus

I have sweet peppers, chillies in mine, but they do wilt a bit midday

I thought about citrus trees but everywhere says that they like it warm, not baking.

I have been looking at cacti as well and have e-mailed a cactus company to ask what would be best!

I was also thinking about chillies but someone I work with advised me that I would need to move them around the middle of the afternoon but I am out from 7am-6pm so I can't be there to move them around unfortunately.
I think cactus is probably the way forward.

Hi, I have a tequila plant in mine which has been one of the only plants to survive this year along with the other cacti. We had yucca plant for a number of years but I think it has just been too hot this summer and has killed it. I would say go for cacti, or make some blinds which I have done.

Thank you Cat. I am going to have a look into cacti in more detail.

I have got blinds around the windows or the conservatory, its just the ceiling which doesn't have blinds and because I only rent the house, I'm not willing to spend too much on buying/making ceiling blinds :o

I have two houseplants which have lived/grown quite happily in our conservatory for the past 9/10 months. Having said that, I do constanty have all doors and windows open. Still gets very very hot though, too hot to be in there. I have no idea what the plants are called, would have to post a pic if you wanted :)
