The cheapest way to get a wing mirror painted professionally

Got a quote from dealer's bodyshop - £50 for painting a primed wing mirror with matching metallic paint.

Can I get it done cheaper elsewhere (not compromising on quality) ? Thanks

Look in yellow pages for car bodywork repairers - anyone of these should be able to paint a wing mirror cover.

Not really. £50 is an hours labour and the cost of the paint and materials. Paint isn't cheap and is likely to be around £10 cost to them. You've then got the sandpaper etc so probably £15 in materials.

For anyone who says it doesn't take an hour to spray a mirror cover, remember you've also got to mix up the paint and colour sand.

Why sandpaper ? It is brand new already primed mirror cover ..

Because it'll need keying so the paint being applied will stick. Also you want the paint to go on the flattest surface possible and a pre-primed one won't be. Then once the lacquer coat has gone on, you need to flat that unless you're happy with a surface that looks like orange peel.

"Already primed" merely saves the bodyshop the very first step in the process - keying the bare material and applying primer.

OP, I know you said professionally, but have you thought about getting an aerosol from somewhere like Halfords and doing it yourself?

Maybe look for a local chips away franchise or similar although £50 doesn't sound to bad TBH.

there are companies that will mix to paint code,i did mine recently as they were knackered.
colour paint and clear coat £15 and 1500 wet and dry £3.G3 compound £4
have a go yourself just take your time to put paint on applying too much too quick will make it look a mess, when the 3coats of colour has had 20 mins drying time then give it a few coats of clear.
dont worry about orange peel after 3 days or so of hardening give it a wet sand with the 1500 to smooth off then bring shine back using the G3.
for me it always feels better if i have done it myself rather than lining someone elses pocket.

just an update in case someone will use this thread as a reference

found lots of bodyshops locally, prices ranging between £25 and £30 and they even come to your place and fit it afterwards

also there are some mirror sellers on ebay who will be happy to provide the spraying service, same price

so imho £50 seems to be a rip-off
