my c3 was serviced last week and was fine.
except they reckon i need a new sump....
when i started the car the dashboard told me i had 20000 miles before next service.
i have driven 61 miles and now when i start the car it says 18500 miles before service..
how has this happened it was fine before it went in to the garage ??

thanks for any advice...

The mileage until your next service varies depending on what type of driving you do. That's one of the main points of service indicators. If those 61 miles were city driving then that'll put more strain on the car so it'll need servicing sooner. I'd just not pay attention to it until it actually says 'service me now'.

Obviously if youre checking the levels each week you wont need to rely on a service indicator... :p

Not necessary Oil doesn't last for ever so you could end up with a engine full of bad oil. maybe there a issue with the old service period and at the dealership they adjusted the service indicator to show this.

Why not phone the garage and ask them?

As mentioned in post 2. It probably depends on how and where the car is driven.
You might do a week of town, slow, stop, start driving when the indicator will reduce the mileage. Then maybe a couple of motorway runs when the mileage will increase.
I had a Peugeot with a similar "flexible" service interval.
